RTI and CSI Partner to Provide High-Performance, Standards-Based Market-Data Solution Award-winning messaging middleware combines with open-standards
feed handlers to offer superior trading platform
BigNews.Biz - Sep 14,2009 - SUNNYVALE, CA–September 14, 2009– Real-Time Innovations (RTI), The Real-Time Middleware Experts, and Collaborative Software Initiative (CSI), the company that applies collaborative methodologies to building and delivering software products at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods, are teaming to offer an ultra high-performance, standards-based solution for market-data distribution. The companies paired extremely high-performance RTI Data Distribution Service middleware with low-latency CSI Feed Handler. The combination is open, modular, and easy to deploy, while delivering ultra low-latency performance.
“The collaboration between RTI and CSI offers a flexible and maintainable alternative to proprietary feed handler products without compromising performance,” said Richard Reichgut, director of financial services, CSI.
RTI’s peer-to-peer middleware avoids servers, daemons and extra network hops. CSI handles the highest volume feeds like OPRA, ARCA and ITCH. The combination removes critical latency from the front end of the trading system.
Open architecture means lower deployment costs
RTI and CSI leverage the leading standards-based solution for distributing market data, the Open Market Data (OMD) architecture. OMD was developed collaboratively by financial institutions, technology providers, service providers and middleware vendors. RTI and CSI collaborated to develop a Feed Handler plug-in for OMD that uses the standard Data Distribution Service (DDS) application programming interface (API) to enable very rapid integration and deployment of market-data platforms. This plug-in offers a powerful, standardized configuration to adapt systems to demanding requirements such as scaling, customized reliability, performance tuning and application fusion, all while delivering minimum latency.
The power of open standards is fully realized when integrating with the rest of the trading system. Another open API in the OMD architecture, Market Data Abstraction Layer (MDAL) provides a standardized way for an application to access market data, while the use of DDS enables distribution of market data to SQL databases, Complex Event Processing, data recording applications, and even Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software – all by simply embracing open standards.
“The quest for the fastest technology to deliver price data from exchanges to trading algorithms and traders continues, but years of focusing on performance with little concern for long-term maintenance have finally caught up with many financial services firms,” said Sumeet Shendrikar, director of technology, Financial Services for RTI. “Operational risk and deployment costs have become significant factors when selecting technology. With budgets becoming tighter, time-to-deployment cannot be sacrificed by spending cycles on the complex integration of proprietary interfaces. CSI Feed Handlers paired with RTI Data Distribution Service reconcile both needs: relentless improvements in performance and latency, and the ability to integrate and maintain the system in the long run.”
About RTI Data Distribution Service
RTI Data Distribution Service is a high-performance messaging infrastructure for real-time, market-data delivery. It meets the demanding requirements of mission-critical systems, including deterministic performance, low latency, high throughput and full fault tolerance. The solution’s loosely coupled integration approach slashes long-term software maintenance costs by enabling quick development, simple system administration and hot-swap maintenance. Financial systems built with RTI’s deterministic middleware outperform other designs when it counts most during heavy trading.
